Connecting to your Point of Rental Server Using a Tablet or Smart Phone Device

Available Options:

1.   Remote Desktop Connection.

2.   LogMeIn Ignition

3.   VPN/RDP (Virtual Private Network/ Remote Desktop Connection)

Remote Desktop Connection

a.   On the tablet you will need to go to the Application Store and download one of the various RDP clients. Some are Free and some are Pay. Look at the ratings and comments of the prior customers before you purchase one (PocketCloud is a popular app).

b.   From your store you will need to go to www.whatismyip.com and get the stores IP address in bold center of the web page. It will look like: 123.234.345.456

c.   Store’s Router. You will be setting port forwarding to the server. Each Router is completely different in setup screens. So we will not go into details on this step and refer you to a local Computer Technician.

(Note: if your credit cards are integrated with Point-of-Rental opening port 3389 for ALL, will void your PCI compliancy with your credit card processor.)

d.   Once you have the Stores IP address you will need to know what user you want to use to log in with. You may have to have one created by a local Computer Technician. If you decide to use the username that you currently use at work. No one will be able to use that terminal with that login while you are connected or it will disconnect you when it connects with the same name.

e.   Ok by now you should have an IP Address, Username, Password and the Router’s Port Forwarding Set.

f.    Open the RDP program you downloaded on the Ipad and follow the prompts. You will then get connected to your server at work, then be able to open Point-of-Rental as if you were sitting at your desk.

LogMeIn Ignition

a.   Go to the App Store on the tablet, Then search for LogMeIn

b.   Download the program LogMeIn Ignition.

c.   Go to your local computers desktop at work and go to the www.logmein.com website.

d.   You will create an account at their website and be prompted to download software to that terminal. Once the software is installed and the account created. Go back to your iPad.

e.   Open the LogMeIn App and put in your username and password you created on their site. Then click connect.

f.    Congrats you will be at your local desktop in the office and be able to click on the Point-of-Rental icon that will then connect you to the server running Point-of-Rental as if you were at your computer in the office.

*** Connecting this way also gives you full access to your local PC in the office. ***

VPN/RDP (Virtual Private Network/ Remote Desktop Connection)

a.   This option would require a local Computer Technician.

*Note: The above options are subject to the limitations of your device and the apps available for your specific device. While Point-of-Rental does not officially support these devices, many of our customers enjoy the benefits and mobility these devices offer.
